Benchmark Survey on Production, Print, and Paper

In the two years since Catalog Age conducted its previous Benchmark Survey on Production, Print, and Paper, the economy has sputtered and the U.S. Postal Service has increased rates several times. Nonetheless, this year’s Benchmark Survey reveals no dramatic trends when it comes to designing and producing print catalogs.

No doubt that’s because few drastic changes in catalog production have occurred. There haven’t been innovations on a par with, say, the introduction of digital work flows or printing on demand. The closest movement to a sea change in the production world would be the continuing implementation of technologies such as computer-to-plate (CTP) printing and digital photography. And even then, the greatest waves of adoption of new technologies seem to have occurred several years prior.
