Micro Warehouse Trims Staff

Norwalk, CT—Dell Computer did it. So did PC Connection. Now, citing weak PC sales, computer reseller Micro Warehouse has laid off 116 employees in two rounds of layoffs. According to spokesman Larry Midler, the catalog terminated 51 employees on May 18, six weeks after it laid off 65 workers.

The company has more than 2,000 employees in its corporate headquarters, its two New Jersey sales and customer service centers, and its Wilmington, OH, distribution center. No salespeople were laid off. “Unit sales are down, and prices are down,” Midler says, “so that’s putting downward pressure on revenue.”

According to a source familiar with the company, Micro Warehouse’s May sales are down approximately 35% compared with last May, while April sales were off 30% from the year prior. But Midler would say only that sales declines were “in the double digits.”
