G. Neil Crosses Consumer Line

G. Neil Co. has built up a business selling human-resources and motivational products to small and midsize companies. But the Sunrise, FL-based cataloger has also quietly ventured into the consumer catalog arena.

G. Neil mailed its first Holiday Gift Book, which sells items such as luggage, pen sets, and personal organizers ranging in price from $2.49 to $139.99, in September 1999. The 16-page book mailed to customers and names rented from lists of holiday gift buyers, says president/CEO Terry Jukes. Also known as the Corporate Holiday Gift Collection, the catalog is mailed separately in envelopes or bound into the holiday edition of the core book.

Last year, the company mailed the gift catalog in September and November. “The catalog is a logical extension for our employee rewards market,” Jukes says, adding that the book is part of a test program of new supplemental catalogs to enhance G. Neil’s core product line. Although Jukes claims that the company has had a “very positive” response from the consumer book and hopes to expand its circulation next year, he would not divulge sales, response, or circulation figures.

Founded in 1987 by Gary Neil Brown, G. Neil publishes a master catalog of products for employers to manage and motivate employees as well as items to recognize customers and vendors. The company also operates a three-year-old Website. And for the past four summers, the company has mailed a 36-page holiday greetings card catalog.
