JCPenney (2014)

J.C. Penney

THE REASON: The Ron Johnson Era. In 2012, comparable store sales dropped 25.2%, revenue fell 24.8%, and ecommerce sales – once a bright spot for the department store – fell 33% to $1.02 billion.

TODAY: While JCPenney is still struggling to win back its customer base under returned CEO Mike Ullman, the doom and gloom in Plano, TX seems to be over. For the first quarter of 2014, JCPenney reported net sales of $2.8 billion compared to $2.64 billion in the first quarter of 2013. Same store sales increased 6.2% and improved sequentially each month within the quarter.
