PetSmart Acquires Pet360

Content Manager

PetSmart announced last week that it is planning to acquire ecommerce pet retailer Pet360. The transaction is expected to be complete this month.

“Although online sales are still a relatively small part of the pet products industry, we expect them to become a more relevant part source of revenue in the future,” said PetSmart president and CEO David Lenhardt in a press release.

The Pet360 network includes more than nine of the top pet websites and reaches more than 12 million pet owners a month, making it a comprehensive source for online pet information and products in the U.S.

Combining Pet360’s family of ecommerce websites, digital media program and content sites with PetSmart’s existing web platform and store network will immediately allow PetSmart to provide customers an omnichannel shopping experience as well as a wealth of information.

The acquisition also allows PetSmart to achieve efficiencies and cost savings through increased scale, merchandise assortment and web platform and fulfillment capabilities.

According to Technical.ly, Pet360 provides a highly personalized website offering content for pet owners, who can register and input data about their pets and get relevant content. If pet owners don’t register, the site will learn about their profile based on  actions on the site.

All 125 employees of Pet360 will remain in the company’s Plymouth Meeting, PA headquarters after the sale, according to its CEO Brock Weatherup. Pet360 is likely to hire more employees locally as well.

Pet360 has three domestic warehouses in Harleysville, PA, Chino, CA, and Louisville, KY which also operates as a pet pharmacy.
