Survey: Consumers Indifferent to Online Sales Tax

New York–Many consumers would not alter their online buying habits if Internet sales taxes were imposed, according to a recent Jupiter Media Metrix survey. The study found that 74% of consumers who have abandoned a purchase in the past do not choose one e-commerce site over another to avoid sales taxes for purchases under $50. Still, that leaves 21% of buyers who have abandoned a retailer to avoid paying sales tax—a fact that could further fuel the argument for anti-Internet-tax lobbyists.
