Here is a listing of recently announced expansions, additions and closures in retail distribution and fulfillment centers:

Outdoor retailer REI plans to open a third distribution center in Goodyear, AZ, which will service 40 of the company’s 140 U.S. stores as well as online operations. The 400,000 square-foot facility will open in July 2016 and employ about 120.

Computer product and consumer electronics distributor D&H is doubling the size of its Fresno, CA distribution center to 400,000 square feet. When completed later this year, the expansion will create 40 new jobs.

Work clothing manufacturer Carhartt will upgrade its Hanson, KY distribution center, equipping it to handle omnichannel functionality and maximize its capacity and productivity. The project was the beneficiary of an $11 million reinvestment project in 2011.

Target plans to expand its distribution center in Suffolk, VA. Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s office says the company will invest about $50 million in the project and create hundreds of new jobs.

Operations and Fulfillment, Warehouse/Distribution Center, distribution center, fulfillment center, amazon, Target Inc., Carhartt, REI, D&H, Staples, O'Reilly Auto Parts, O'Reilly AutomotiveAmazon signed a lease for a 52,000-square-foot distribution center on Goose Island in Chicago, the first of several planned around the city to service customers in the metro area. The deal was announced about six months after Amazon pledged to add 1,000 jobs in Illinois by 2017 with the addition of several new facilities.

Staples will lay off 47 people and close down a Tampa, FL warehouse, with operations winding down by mid-October.

Auto parts retailer O’Reilly Automotive said it plans to build its 27th distribution center in Selma, TX, a northeastern suburb of San Antonio, as it continues to average several new store openings each week.
