Consumer confidence fell once again in November, continuing a decline that began in June. The Conference Board’s Consumer Confidence index dropped to 82.2 for November, down from 85.3 in October and 132.6 in November 2000. The Present Situation index also fell, from 197.7 in November 2000 and 107.2 in October 2001 to 93.5. One small comfort: The Expectations index inched upward from 70.7 in October to 74.6 in November—although it’s still well short of the 101.2 it reached in November 2000.
