Singapore Post Making Mega Moves in the U.S.

Singapore Post is on the move in the United States. A week after it took a majority stake in ecommerce logistics provider Jagged Peak, Singapore Post announced an agreement to acquire TradeGlobal, an omnichannel provider of end-to-end ecommerce services.

And although Jack Ma said back in June that he has no plans of taking over ecommerce in the U.S., Alibaba, which acquired a 10% ownership of SingPost last May, definitely has put its stake in U.S. soil.

The TradeGlobal acquisition leverages SingPost’s influence and market knowledge in Singapore and the Asia-Pacific region and TradeGlobal’s expertise across the ecommerce spectrum to create a true end-to-end e-commerce solution with limitless geographic boundaries, the companies said in a joint press release.

By coalescing resources, technologies and expertise, industry leaders SingPost and TradeGlobal can empower a unified global supply chain and commerce strategy for brands seeking expansion across North America, Asia and Europe.

Headquartered in Cincinnati, TradeGlobal provides global ecommerce services to leading fashion, beauty and lifestyle brands. This acquisition will enable TradeGlobal to enhance its existing service offering — which includes Demandware platform development, website content management, digital marketing, omnichannel fulfillment, logistics, digital imaging and customer care — while adding new, innovative solutions on a global scale.

“This acquisition not only allows us to market our combined competencies to a broader and more diversified client base, but it also paves the way toward the future of global commerce and logistics services,” said Dave Cook, Executive Chairman of TradeGlobal.

The companies did not reveal SingPost’s purchase price of TradeGlobal. However, last week, SingPost did say it did pay $15.8 million for the 71.1% of the equity ownership interests in Jagged Peak.

SingPost said it wanted the equity stake in JaggedPeak to bring its technology platforms and fulfilment service networks global, linking the continents of Asia, Australia, continental North America and Europe. The proposed acquisition will enable SingPost to support customers globally and move products more efficiently to consumers by implementing Jagged Peak’s Flexnet technology.

Jagged Peak’s ecommerce logistics platform, used by more than 20 warehousing facilities across the U.S., Canada and Europe, will enable SingPost to become a truly global eeommerce logistics provider for high-velocity consumer products.
