Americans Spending More Online

Boston–Despite the slowing economy, Americans are spending more online. According to a recent report from research and consulting firm Boston Consulting Group, annual online retail revenue grew 66% in 2000, to $44.5 billion. Boston Consulting expects that figure to swell to $65 billion this year. Nonetheless, online sales accounted for only 2% of total North American retail sales in 2000.

ITV to Account for Nearly Half of TV-Based Shopping

New York–Revenue generate from interactive television (iTV) shopping will account for 44% of total U.S. television-based shopping by 2005, according to a recent report from research firm Jupiter Media Metrix. The study concludes that revenue from iTV shopping will reach $4.3 billion by 2005, with the majority of those sales from iTV programs that allow viewers to use a remote control, rather than a phone, to buy featured items.
