Reader’s Digest shuts small catalog

While it aggressively pursues the sale of its Good Catalog/Gifts.com business, Reader’s Digest on April 18 closed its unprofitable Books and Home Entertainment All Products catalog. The catalog, which sold music, books, and videos that were also sold via the company’s other direct marketing channels, had no connection to the Good Catalog/Gifts.com.

“We’re reducing a lot of activities to reduce risk,” says Reader’s Digest spokesperson Bill Adler, “because the Books and Entertainment division has been unprofitable for a full year.”
