Direct Sales Drop 5.4% at Frederick’s of Hollywood

Bucking a trend seen by b-to-c retailers, poor sales in its direct channels has hurt apparel merchant Frederick’s of Hollywood. Though company chairman and CEO Thomas Lynch attributed a net sales decrease for the second quarter ended Jan. 28 to post-Christmas clearance sales, it was the second straight quarter that direct channels have put Frederick’s sales in the red.

Cooking.com Builds a Relationship With Email

A big reason for Cooking.com’s is having success with email marketing, director of email marketing Matt Bunn said, is because it’s beginning to treat the tactic as it would its social media channels. That is, Cooking.com wanted to be conversational with its customers, not just throw a deal a day their way.

Melissa Payner-Gregor Out at Bluefly

Melissa Payner-Gregor has resigned as CEO at Bluefly, according to an 8-K the off-price luxury apparel and accessories merchant filed Feb. 2 with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Payner-Gregor, who also gave up her seat on Bluefly’s board of directors, was immediately replaced by chief operations officer Joseph C. Park.

Online sales for macys.com and bloomingdales.com, combined, were up 35.8% in December, 40.3% for the 2011 holiday season, and 39.7% in 2011 year-to-date. But Macy’s president and CEO Terry Lundgren is not ready for his company’s ecommerce team to rest on its laurels.
