Blair 2Q Income Falls Despite Sales Boost

Increases in the cost of goods sold and advertising expenses ate into second-quarter net income at Blair Corp. (AMEX: BL). Despite a 5% boost in revenue, the apparel and home goods cataloger saw income for the quarter fall 41%. For the three months ended June 30, Warren, PA-based Blair netted $4.1 million on sales of $154.3 million. For the second quarter of 2002, the company—whose titles include women’s apparel book Crossing Pointe—posted net income of $7.0 million on $147.5 million in revenue.
