Cheerleading Catalogers Merge

Cheerleading-uniform catalogers Varsity Spirit and National Spirit have announced plans to merge. The new entity will operate under the corporate name Varsity Brands, which is the Memphis-based parent firm of Varsity Spirit. Both companies operate catalogs and field sales organizations. Varsity Spirit owns a catalog of the same name; Garland, TX-based National Spirit owns the Athens, GA-based Danzteam catalog.

No layoffs are planned, and according to National Spirit director of marketing and communications Martha Elrod, not much will change aside from the corporate name, according to a report in the Athens (GA) Review. National Spirit president/CEO Jerry Dilettuso will remain in his role as well as be named vice chairman. Jeff Webb will remain president/CEO of Varsity Brands.
