NBTY to Acquire Rexall Sundown

Bohemia, NY-based NBTY, a manufacturer/marketer of nutritional supplements, has signed a contract to acquire $455 million supplements manufacturer Rexall Sundown from Royal Numico for $250 million in cash. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to close in July 2003.

The Rexall acquisition should strengthen NBTY’s wholesale business as well as provide it with additional manufacturing capacity. Rexall's nutritional supplement brands includes Sundown, Osteo Bi-Flex, CarbSolutions, and Met-Rx. NPTY’s catalogs include Puritan Pride.
