Transcat Ends Quarter in the Red

Rochester, NY-based Transcat (Nasdaq:TRNS), a manufacturer/marketer of test, measurement and calibration equipment, enjoyed a 5% increase in sales for the quarter ended Sept. 25. But the company nonetheless posted a loss for the quarter.

For the three months ended Sept. 25, Transcat lost $93,000 on sales of $12.5 million. For the comparable period of last year, it had netted $355,000 on sales of $11.9 million. Product sales for the quarter rose to $8.3 million from $7.6 million a year ago. Transcat says that last year’s results included a $200,000 tax benefit and a swing of $100,000 in conversion of Canadian currency. Total cost of products and services sold increased 14% to $9.6 million, compared with $8.4 million last year.
