The United States Postal Service will soon “look into” raising the postage rate for various types of mail commonly used by consumers and businesses that mail periodicals, magazines, newspapers and marketing material, according to CNN.

According to the article, Mickey Barnett, chairman of the USPS Board of Governors, said that the board “has directed the service” to evaluate price increases even if “as a board we loathe” to look into the increase.

Postal workers, according to the article, are fearful that the increase would “chase customers away.”

According to an article in The Hill, the USPS “racked up $1.9 billion in losses during the first three months of 2013, bringing the agency’s total losses for the fiscal year to more than $3.2 billion.”

There is no word yet as to when the USPS will look into raising the rates.
