Boxed launched “Boxed Up,” a new paid membership service. For $49 a year, members of the program will receive free rush shipping on orders over $20, improved customer service, price matching and cash back on purchases.

“Boxed Up is a premium service that our customers have been asking for—they’re looking for deeper discounts and unique promotions and are willing to pay more to access them,” said Ashish Prashar, Vice President of Communications for Boxed. “We decided to roll out a premium service that rewards loyal customers with perks and promotions for shopping at Boxed.”

The membership program also includes deals on Boxed Hotels and other discounts and offerings.

Prashar said Boxed did a historical customer survey and found that there was a demand for deeper discounts and unique offers combined with a willingness to pay for a premium service that provided these types of benefits.

“We’re working with partners like Keurig, Pepsi and Kraft to offer great promotions on well-loved products,” said Prashar.

Prashar said what sets Boxed’s offering apart from Amazon Prime is the 2% cash back rewards, price-matching for competitors, giveaways and promotions.

“While Boxed shoppers can continue shopping on Boxed without signing up for Boxed Up, one of the main differences between the two is shipping,” said Prashar.
