The National Retail Federation, along with 20 other retailers, have asked a federal judge to reject a proposed settlement over credit card swipe fees alleging it is an “evil” price fixing practice conducted by Visa and MasterCard.

Consumer Confidence Index Increases to Five-Year High

The Conference Board Consumer Confidence Index, which had improved in April, increased again in May. The Index now stands at 76.2 (1985=100), up from 69.0 in April. The Present Situation Index increased to 66.7 from 61.0.

Best Buy reported a 16% jump in domestic online sales for the first quarter which ended May 4 compared to last year’s first quarter. According to president and CEO Hubert Joly, the company continues to make substantial progress with its Renew Blue priorities, according to a press release on BestBuy.com.

In 2017, it is expected that 72% of all mobile retail sales will be done on tablets. Today, 15% of all online commerce will be conducted on mobile commerce, but that share is expected to reach 25% by 2017, according to this infographic by eMarketer.
