San Francisco-based gifts merchant RedEnvelope has named Frank Buettner chief operating officer. Buettner was previously vice president of operations and IT for Bag Borrow or Steal. RedEnvelope also promoted Gary Korotzer from vice president of marketing to chief marketing officer.

Dirk Collin was named executive vice president/managing director, Europe for Delray Beach, FL-based Office Depot. He will be based in Office Depot's European headquarters in Venlo, Netherlands. He was previously general manager, Northern Europe and vice president, sales operations (Europe, Asia, Middle East) for StorageTek Corp.

New York-based footwear and apparel company Kenneth Cole Productions has hired Joel Newman as chief operating officer. He most recently held the same post at Tommy Hilfiger Corp.

Bruce Ross, executive vice president/chief financial officer of Guitar Center, will retire as CFO on March 31, although he will remain with the Westlake Village, CA-based company through June. Erick Mason, currently executive vice president/chief administrative officer, will succeed Ross.

Gifts and stationery cataloger Miles Kimball Co. has named Stan Krangel president. He replaces Mike Muoio, who left the Oshkosh, WI-based merchant in October. Krangel was most recently president of tabletop manufacturer/marketer Lenox.

Michelle Carrara has joined San Francisco-based furnishings cataloger/retailer Design Within Reach as vice president of merchandising. She had been merchandise manager, textiles and apparel for Pottery Barn Kids. Design Within Reach has also hired Suzanne Ewing as vice president of human resources. She previously held the same role at Shopping.com.

San Francisco-based home decor cataloger/retailer Restoration Hardware appointed Chris Newman senior vice president/chief financial officer. Newman most recently served as vice president/chief financial officer, store operations for Limited Brands.
