Schuler is president/CEO of Donerail Investments, a private investment partnership targeting acquisitions of companies primarily in manufacturing and distribution in western New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. Blair also announced the retirements of board members David Blair, Robert Blair, Kent Sivillo, and Blair Smoulder. Robert Blair and Smoulder served on the board for 41 and 17 years respectively and previously retired from active management with the company. Peterborough, NH-based list company Millard Group has appointed Mary Ellen McGarry as account director in list management. McGarry was previously an executive at business solutions provider Experian. Most recently, he acted as director of Eastern regional sales for Unica Technologies.

Indianapolis-based apparel and furnishings marketer Brylane has appointed Christophe Gaigneux executive vice president of the Special Sizes Apparel Group and Kevin Doyle executive vice president of merchandise support. Gaigneux, who had been apparel director in France at La Redoute, owned by Brylane’s parent company, Prinault Printemps Redoute, will be responsible for leading the product development initiatives for the Lane Bryant, Roaman’s, King Size, and Jessica London catalogs. Doyle, who will be responsible for updating and guiding the company’s direct merchandise supply chain, joined Brylane in 1975. Both Gaigneux and Doyle will serve on Brylane’s executive committee and will report to chairman/CEO Russell Stravitz.

South Deerfield, MA-based manufacturer/marketer Yankee Candle Co. appointed its CEO, Craig W. Rydin, to chairman of the board of directors. Rydin succeeds Michael J. Kittredge, the company’s founder, who resigned and has been appointed chairman emeritus of Yankee Candle. Rydin joined Yankee Candle as CEO in April 2001. The company also announced the appointment of Michael F. Hines to its board of directors and the company’s audit committee. Hines is chief financial officer/chief administrative officer at Dick’s Sporting Goods.

New York-based slipcover manufacturer/marketer Sure Fit made five appointments to its management team. Marisa Thalberg will serve in the newly created position of senior vice president of marketing and new business development. Thalberg was previously vice president of global advertising and production at Unilever Cosmetics International. Rick Platt has joined Sure Fit as senior vice president of sales. Platt was previously senior director of retail sales and marketing at the National Football League. Paula Neustat has been promoted to senior vice president of merchandising from vice president, merchandising. She will continue to lead product design and development for the company. Liz Mandracchia was promoted to senior vice president of marketing and brand development, from vice president, marketing. She will continue to be responsible for branding, focusing on retail marketing. Other new appointments include Jim Slusser as Web director of SureFit.com. Slusser had been vice president, general manager of Delias.com. Linda Schropp joined Sure Fit as vice president of design. She was previously design director of Arley Corp.

Vernon Hills, IL-based government/education technology products and services provider CDW Government named Max Peterson vice president of federal sales. Joining CDW-G after serving as vice president of public sector for Commerce One, Peterson has also held vice president positions at Government Technology Services and Semaphore.

Madison, ME-based paper manufacturer Madison Paper Industries has announced the retirement of Leroy J. Barry. After joining the company in 1994 as president/chief operating officer, Barry in 1995 advanced to president/CEO, the post he held until 2002, when he became senior adviser to the company during the transition to his successor, Russ Drechsel.

Charlottesville, VA-based consumer electronics cataloger Crutchfield Corp. named Lawrence Becker vice president of new media. Becker, who oversees Crutchfield.com, will now also be responsible for major branding initiatives. In addition, Crutchfield has hired Dave Mathews as chief operating officer. Mathews, who previously headed L.L. Bean.com, will oversee the firm’s daily operations and be involved in long-range planning.

New York-based color management firm Integrated Color Solutions has appointed Dan Caldwell as vice president, operations and Peyton Kay as vice president, sales and marketing. Caldwell has more than 20 years of experience in the prepress and graphics industry; he also cofounded Color Solutions. Kay has more than 16 years of experience leading sales and marketing organizations.

Columbus, OH-based retail/catalog research and strategy consulting firm Retail Forward appointed two new vice presidents to its management team. Dirk Defenbaugh has joined the company as vice president of business development, and Mandy Putnam will serve as vice president. Most recently, Defenbaugh was partner and chief development officer for Retail Planning Associates. Putnam has led many consulting projects with retail and consumer products companies and published articles on consumer trends and segmentation.

Phoenix-based cataloger/retailer PetSmart has promoted Kenneth T. Hall to senior vice president/chief marketing officer. Hall has served in the role on an interim basis since October 2002, when Susanna Eiselsberg resigned from the position. Hall joined PetSmart in October 2000 as vice president, strategic planning and customer relationships. Prior to that, he worked at Bain & Co., where he developed business and customer loyalty strategies and programs for retail, auto manufacturing, and financial services companies.

New York-based Sure Fit made several new hires. Rick Platt was appointed vice president of sales; Linda Schropp joined as vice president of design; Choi Auyeung was hired as design quality manager; Mindie Adler is the company’s new senior Internet marketing manager; and Michael Staskiewicz was appointed media manager.

The Washington-based National Retail Federation has named David Hogan III its senior vice president, chief information officer. Hogan will serve as part of NRF’s executive management team, managing both internal and external technology needs as well as overseeing the NRF’s CIO Council. Hogan was most recently vice president/chief information officer for international retailer Duty Free Americas. Printer Quebecor World has named John Paloian and David Boles co-chief operating officers of Quebecor World North America. Merrimack, NH-based PC Connection, a $1.2 billion computer supplies cataloger, announced on Sept. 20 that president/chief operating officer Wayne Wilson plans to retire at the end of September. CEO Kenneth Koppel will take over Wilson’s role of president and will continue to oversee the company’s three sales subsidiaries, PC Connection Sales Corp., GovConnection, and MoreDirect, as well as all marketing functions. Chairman Patricia Gallup will resume the title of CEO overseeing the company’s service subsidiary, Merrimack Services, in addition to all corporate functions.

Food gifts marketer Omaha Steaks has promoted Vickie Hagen to vice president/general manager of the Omaha Steaks Creative Group, the company’s advertising, marketing, and public relations division. Weehawken, NJ-based multititle mailer Hanover Direct announced the appointment of Eloy Michotte to its board of directors. Michotte is a member of the executive committee of Compagnie Financiere Richemont AG as well as a director of Richemont SA.

Retailer/cataloger Jos. A. Bank Clothiers hired Gary Merry as chief information officer. Merry was formerly with First American Information Services. The Hampstead, MD-based men’s apparel marketer also named Jerry DeBoer senior vice president of marketing. DeBoer was formerly with Parisian, a division of Saks, in charge of men’s clothing and furnishings.

Mt. Laurel, NJ-based Roosevelt Paper Co. has made three appointments to its sales staff. Jim Abram and Anthony Evans have joined the company’s outside sales staff and are based in Chicago. And Kristene Ehme has joined the inside sales staff and is based in the company’s Richwood, KY, facility.

Downers Grove, IL-based Spiegel Group announced the appointment of Melissa Payner to its board of directors. Payner, who joined Spiegel in 1997, is currently senior vice president for the company.

Seattle-based direct marketer Photoworks has named Howard Lee its new CEO. Prior to joining Photoworks, Lee was senior vice president of Disney Direct and had been an executive with multititle catalogery Hanover Direct. Former Photoworks CEO/president Gary Christophersen will stay with the company as active chairman.

Laurie Beja Miller has been promoted from senior vice president/general manager to executive vice president of Disney Store and Disney Direct Marketing. Before joining Burbank, CA-based Disney in 1995, Miller was employed by Spiegel.

Cataloger/retailer Eddie Bauer of Redmond, WA, hired two apparel division executives. Jarlath Mellett, formerly executive vice president/design director for Brooks Brothers, joins Eddie Bauer as senior vice president, design and product development. And Stephen Donnelly is now vice president, general merchandise manager for men’s apparel. He was most recently senior vice president of merchandising, planning, and distribution for A/X Armani Exchange.

South St. Paul, MN-based cataloger The Sportsman’s Guide has named Douglas E. Johnson vice president of marketing. Johnson was employed by Fingerhut Corp. for the past 18 years, most recently as director of customer list marketing.

Danbury, CT-based list company Statlistics has hired four employees: Tim Murphy, senior account executive in brokerage; Kim Wiede, senior account executive in management; Marge Fernbach, senior account executive in management; and McLain Granger in accounting.

The Millard Group announces several new appointments and promotions in its New Hampshire and Connecticut offices. In Peterborough, NH, Tom Rocco, vice president in charge of marketing, will also be the head of Millard Interactive; Audrey Wallis and Steve Perkins are now directors in the list management division; Chris Morgan and Michael Heaney were promoted to vice presidents of sales; Lisa Williams is now an account manager with the list brokerage division; and Bob Lumpford was hired as account manager. In its Darien, CT-based office, Millard has hired Larry Poin a former developer of the Canadian list market, as an account manager in the company’s brokerage division.

List Services Corp. in Bethel, CT, has appointed Barry Donnells executive vice president/general manager. Previously, Donnells was with Torstar Publications and R.L. Polk & Co.

List firm Direct Media in Greenwich, CT, has appointed David Gaudreau to the position of vice president, brokerage division. In this newly created position, Gaudreau will provide brokerage services to existing Direct Media clients, as well as focusing on new business development. Previously, Gaudreau worked as list sales manager for Boardroom.

Business-to-business direct marketer New England Business Service (NEBS) of Groton, MA, announced the addition of William T. End to its board of directors. End is chairman/CEO of Cornerstone Brands and was previously with catalogers Lands’ End and L.L. Bean.

Andrea McKenna has been appointed senior vice president of marketing and catalog development for Hingham, MA-based women’s apparel cataloger/retailer Talbots. McKenna was most recently senior vice president at Boston advertising agency Hill, Holliday, Connors, and Cosmopulos.

Port Washington, NY-based computer and industrial supplies manufacturer/cataloger Systemax announced the hire of Robert H. Rose as vice president/general manager of its Midwest Micro subsidiary. Most recently, Rose was vice president/general manager of operations at Wyle Systems, an industrial distributor and contract manufacturer.
