President postal commission kicks off hearings Jan. 8

U.S. Treasury undersecretary for domestic finance Peter Fisher, Postmaster General Jack Potter, and U.S. Postal Service vice president of finance/CFO Dick Strasser will be among those testifying during the first hearings of the President’s Commission on the Postal Service, according to published reports. The commission, which President Bush announced in December, seeks to identify and rectify the myriad problems threatening the agency’s long-term viability. The commission’s final recommendations are scheduled for July 31.

In other postal news, “Direct” magazine reports that the USPS Board of Governors is expected to name vice chairman David Fineman, a Philadelphia-based attorney, chairman of the postal governing board on Jan. 8. He’ll succeed Robert Rider, who has chaired the board since 2001.
