Smarter Remarketer Names New EVP of Sales and Marketing

INDIANAPOLIS (June 10, 2014) — Smarter Remarketer, the leading provider of customer intelligence and marketing automation for multi-channel retailers, today announces that Barry Clark has joined the company as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Clark most recently served as Group Vice President/Global Retail Sales for Oracle where he led a team of more than 300 sales and sales support professionals as well as industry consultants.

“As our company’s growth continues to push us deeper and wider into omnichannel solutions, Barry’s proven leadership and retail vision for how the marketing ecosystem works together to create scalable opportunities will be indispensable,” said Howard Bates, president and CEO of Smarter Remarketer. “Barry is a trusted partner who I have personally worked with in the past and I am extremely excited that the opportunity with Smarter Remarketer aligned with his professional goals.”

“Smarter Remarketer’s vision demands an understanding of how relationships between retailers and customers will be impacted by a wide array of technologies both today and emerging in the near future,” said Clark. “The really exciting part for me is being a part of a solution that is tackling the industry’s largest opportunities with big data and predictive analytics in ways that deliver demonstrable annualized ROI in a platform that customers can understand and quickly implement. I have not seen this with any other omnichannel solution.”

Clark brings a long history of retail and ecommerce success to Smarter Remarketer. During his more than seven years at Art Technology Group, Inc. (ATG), Clark played a key role in the company’s growth as senior vice president of global sales, eventually helping to secure the company’s acquisition by Oracle for more than $1 billion. After the acquisition, Clark was retained at Oracle, growing its business significantly in just his first year and managed the salesforce integration of Endeca Technologies into Oracle. Eventually his role expanded to include all of Oracle’s global retail sales and related product offerings.

Just two months ago Smarter Remarketer announced the full time hiring of Dean Abbott as chief data scientist for the company. Abbott, an internationally recognized predictive analytics expert, brings more than 25 years of experience in data mining and advanced predictive analytics. These two hires come after Smarter Remarketer secured $7 million in venture financing in a round led by Battery Ventures. Battery’s digital marketing technology portfolio includes companies such as ExactTarget (acquired: Salesforce), Marketo (IPO), Bazaarvoice (IPO), Neolane (acquired: Adobe), BlueKai and Sprinklr, among others.

This financing followed the posting of the company’s best-ever annual performance in 2013 that saw revenue growth of three times higher than the previous year and the introduction of the company’s SR2 Big Data platform, which allows retailers to engage individual website visitors in real-time based on up to several years’ worth of customer data, from behavioral through transactional.
