Spring Hill Nurseries Location Opens Holiday Catalog Outlet Center

Spring Hill Nurseries in Tipp City, OH, is now the Tipp City Catalog Outlet Center through the holiday season.

Parent company Gardens Alive! is using the Tipp City location temporarily as a catalog outlet center to sell overstock at reduced prices from various brands. The Tipp City Catalog Outlet Center was open on Black Friday, and will be for the rest of the holiday season through Jan. 3. It will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

According to an advertisement, the Tipp City Catalog Outlet Center will offer products at “huge discounts”, including houseware, puzzles, games, toys, jewelry, clothing, and bedding.

Mail-order catalog companies whose overstock will be sold at the outlet center include Bits and Pieces, the Paragon, TouchStone, Spilsbury, Images of America, Room Service Home, Spring Hill Nurseries, Gurneys Seed & Nursery, Gardens Alive, Henry Field’s Seed & Nursery, Breck’s Bulbs, Michigan Bulb Co., Thompson & Morgan Seeds, and Audubon Workshop.

Gardens Alive! spokesperson Scott Atkinson says that it is only the Tipp City retail location – the Spring Hill Nursery Garden Center – that is being used temporarily as a catalog outlet center. Spring Hill Nurseries has not changed in any way, he adds. The catalog outlet center will also have a late spring/early summer plant clearance sale.

Atkinson says the horticultural brands will largely be represented at the catalog outlet center in the spring. Last year he says the Tipp City location was used to liquidate catalog overstock items from recent acquisitions, including Bits & Pieces and The Paragon. “These were seasonal and gift items and so we opened in mid-November and ran the sale through the end of the holidays. It was a huge success.”

This year it “made sense” for the space to be used for the same purpose again, Atkinson adds. “It’s known in the community as a great place to go. It’s a large location and we use the indoor space and some of the greenhouses.”

Gardens Alive! founder/president/CEO Niles Kinerk says the Tipp City location is a stand-alone retail store in a non-retail location that isn’t viable in today’s market. “The growth of mass market garden departments at places like Wal-Mart and Home Depot makes it even more difficult. Sales at the retail store were not down. We simply needed space to accommodate sales of overstocks of items from all of our brands, and the Spring Hill location made most sense for us.”
