AIDC Channel Organizations Support Emerging Applications

Recent research by Natick, MA-based Venture Development Corporation, “The 2004 Global AIDC Industry Business Planning Service,” reports that AIDC (automatic identification and data capture) system resellers continue to expand support coverage for emerging application solutions.

In a survey that polled over 200 companies, VDC found that while most resellers support traditional application markets — such as warehouse management, inventory control, point-of-sale (POS), and shipping/receiving — the majority of market growth is found in emerging applications such as self-checkout, mobile POS, route accounting, and more. The top six emerging applications generating support among AIDC resellers, according to VDC, are:

(Percent of AIDC Reseller Respondents Planning to Support)
Self-Checkout: 13.9%
Route Accounting: 20.4%
Reverse Logistics: 20.4%
Mobile POS: 23.4%
Direct Store Delivery: 27.4%
Shelf Labeling: 28.5%

(Percent of AIDC Reseller Respondents Currently Support)
Self-Checkout: 6.6%
Route Accounting: 10.9%
Reverse Logistics: 13.3%
Mobile POS: 16.8%
Direct Store Delivery: 18.9%
Shelf Labeling: 20.4%

And, says VDC, indications are that adoption may in fact intensify over the next few years. For more information, visit www.vdc-corp.com or call (508) 653-9000.
