Airgas Acquires Welding Suppliers Distributor

Airgas is at it again. The direct merchant of industrial gases and safety gear, which since the beginning of its fiscal year in April has completed 13 acquisitions, on Dec. 31 announced it has purchased Great Lakes Oxygen, a $15 million distributor of industrial gas and welding supplies.

Formed in 1982, Great Lakes Oxygen also does business as Welder’s Supply, Westside Welders Supply, Great Lakes Propane, and Lake Erie Iron and Metal. The company includes retail showrooms, warehouses, fill plants, a specialty gas laboratory and an acetylene plant.

“This transaction adds great resources and talent to Airgas Great Lakes, and allows us to offer a broader array of products and services to an expanded base of valued customers,” said Kevin McBride, Airgas Great Lakes president. “We are pleased to welcome all 50 Great Lakes Oxygen associates to Airgas.”
