To expand its line of bird-related products, pet supplies cataloger Drs. Foster & Smith purchased certain assets of Rosemont, IL-based bird food and cages cataloger Hornbeck’s. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“As Hornbeck’s was facing closure and their customers were about to be stranded, we were presented with an opportunity to expand our product line and welcome an additional 14,000 bird enthusiasts to our family,” Dr. Race Foster, cofounder of Rhinelander, WI-based Drs. Foster & Smith, said in a statement.
The deal is expected to generate up to $2 million in revenue for Drs. Foster & Smith in 2003. The cataloger acquired aquarium products supplier Pet Warehouse in September 2001.
