Blooming Quarter for 1-800-Flowers.com

Multichannel marketer 1-800-Flowers.com (Nasdaq: FLWS), whose catalogs include Plow & Hearth, Magic Cabin Dolls, and HearthSong, posted a 12% increase in revenue for its fiscal third quarter. For the three months ended March 31, total sales were $115.4 million, up from $103.2 million last year. And the gifts marketer turned around last year’s net loss of $8.5 million for the quarter, reporting net income of $165,000.

Combined online and “telephonic” revenue increased 12%, to $107.6 million from $95.8 million. Online sales increased 21%, to $56.9 million from $47.1. Telephonic revenues for the quarter increased 4.3 % to $50.7 million compared with $48.6 million last year.

For its fiscal fourth quarter, which ends June 30, 1-800 Flowers.com anticipates total revenue growth of approximately 9%-12%, to $143 million-$148 million, with EBITDA of about $8 million. For the fiscal year, the Westbury, NY-based company projects sales growth of 13%-14%, for total sales of $500 million-$505 million, with EBITDA of approximately $10 million.

Sportsman’s Guide Back in the Black

South St. Paul, MN-based outdoor gear cataloger The Sportsman’s Guide (Nasdaq: SGDE) turned around last year’s first-quarter loss. For the three months ended March 31, net earnings totaled $784,000, compared with a net loss of $167,000 for the comparable period of 2001. Sales increased 7%, to $41.6 million from $38.9 million last year. Internet-related sales accounted for 27% of sales for the quarter, compared with approximately 20% a year ago.
