3Q Earnings, Sales Increase at Excelligence

Third-quarter revenue at Monterey, CA-based educational products manufacturer/marketer Excelligence Learning Corp. (NasdaqSC: LRNS) increased 10%, while net income rose 32%. For the three months ended Sept. 30, the parent company of the Early Childhood Manufacturers’ Direct and Discount School Supply catalogs posted net income of $7.8 million on sales of $51.0 million. For the third quarter of last year, Excelligence (which also owns online marketer SmarterKids) netted $5.9 million on sales of $46.3 million.

Urban Outfitters 3Q Direct Sales Jump 49%
Fueled by a 48% leap in direct-to-consumer sales, Philadelphia-based Urban Outfitters (Nasdaq: URBN ) reported record third-quarter revenue of $142.3 million. That’s up 29% from last year. Comparable-store sales increased 17%. In addition to its core brand of apparel and decor for young adults, which launched a print catalog earlier this year, Urban Outfitters owns women’s apparel and home decor cataloger/retailer Anthropologie.
