Despite circ cuts, Gaiam gains

Despite reduced catalog circulation, Broomfield, CO-based manufacturer/marketer Gaiam (Nasdaq: GAIA) posted second-quarter sales and earnings gains. The health and wellness products cataloger, whose titles include SelfCare and Real Goods, had sales of $24.1 million for the three months ended June 30, a 10% increase from $22.0 million for the same period of last year. Operating income increased 13%, to $1.7 million from $1.5 million, and net income soared 82%, to $1.0 million from $552,000 last year.

Twinlab narrows net loss, sales fall Hauppauge, NY-based nutritional supplements manufacturer/marketer Twinlab (Nasdaq: TWLB) incurred a net loss of $3.6 million for the quarter ended June 30. But that’s actually good news, as for the second quarter of last year, its net loss had been $7.1 million. Net sales for the quarter fell 13%, to $42.7 million from $49.0 million last year.
