Financial Reports: Henry Schein, PC Connection

Double-Digit Sales, Income Increases for Henry Schein
Second-quarter sales at Melville, NY-based Henry Schein rose 10.5%, to $1.22 billion for the 13 weeks ended July 1. Net income rose even more—22%, from $37.0 million a year ago to $45.2 million.

Sales of dental supplies rose 11%, while medical/veterinary sales increased 14%. Most of that increase resulted from Schein’s acquisition of NLS Animal Health earlier this year. Discounting acquired businesses, however, sales within the division rose more than 3%.

Record 2Q for PC Connection
Merrimack, NH-based computer reseller PC Connection grew its second-quarter sales more than 16%, to a record $408.1 million for the three months ended June 30. And net income nearly doubled, from $1.6 million to $3.1 million.

Year-over-year sales to large-account customers climbed 64%, to $128.3 million, due largely to revenue generated by sales reps formerly with Amherst Technologies, the company whose assets PC Connection acquired last October. Sales to small and midsize businesses rose 4%, to $215.1 million. Sales to government and education buyers slipped less than 1%, to $64.7 million.
