Neiman Marcus Direct Up 7%
Dallas-based luxury merchant Neiman Marcus Group (NYSE: NMG.A) reported net earnings of $34 million for the three months ended July 30, up 67% from the comparable quarter of last year. Operating earnings for Neiman Marcus Direct, which includes the Neiman Marcus of Horchow catalogs, jumped 20%, to $19 million.

Direct revenue increased 7%, to $134 million, while total sales for the quarter rose 10%, to $851 million.

Jos. A. Bank Continues Its Winning Streak
Jos. A. Bank Clothiers (Nasdaq NM: JOSB) enjoyed second-quarter gains all around. Total sales for the three months ended July 30 were $98.6 million, up from $82.0 million for the comparable quarter of 2004. Same store sales rose 5%, while combined catalog and Internet sales increased 23%.

Net income soared 56%, to $5.3 million from $3.4 million last year.
