HomeDepot.com to Sell Ads

Selling lumber, hardware, maintenance supplies, and furniture isn’t enough for Home Depot. The Atlanta-based cataloger/retailer is now selling advertising on HomeDepot.com.

The program kicked off for select advertisers earlier this week, and will be made available to all others in late August. Home Depot is starting out with ads from four of its vendors: Moen Faucets, Price Fister Plumbing, Delta Faucets, and Ryobi Power Tools.

According to Harvey Seegers, president of Home Depot Direct, Website visitors can go directly to an advertiser’s branded site through HomeDepot.com. Once there, they can experience interactive demos, streaming video, and in-depth product content.

“We like to think of the ad program as further education for customers,” says spokesperson Jean Osta. “This allows customers to do more research online before they even step into the store. They can take the next step while they are already in the shopping mode.” Osta adds that while the majority of Home Depot stores now have kiosks with Internet access, the growing number of U.S. households with broadband service makes this program that much more attractive to advertisers.
