J. Crew Lays Off 30

New York-based apparel cataloger/retailer J. Crew laid off about 30 employees from its distribution center and call center in Lynchburg, VA, according to the Lynchburg “News and Advance.” The company did not return calls to CATALOG AGE by press time.

According to the report, the layoffs follow a decline in mail order returns, now that J. Crew accepts returns in its stores. Three years ago, direct sales constituted 36% of J. Crew’s overall sales. That figure has since dropped to 26%.
