Mark Group Trims Staff

Boca Raton, FL—Disappointing sales led multititle cataloger/retailer The Mark Group to lay off 11 of its 750 employees at the end of June, according to Skip Hartzell, executive vice president/chief creative and Internet officer.

This is the first time that the 50-year-old company, which mails women’s apparel titles Boston Proper and Mark, Fore, and Strike, and gifts book Charles Keath, has had to lay off employees. “Sometimes your back end gets a little ahead of front end, and you have to make adjustments,” Hartzell says.

Prior to these changes, chief operating officer Seth Miller resigned from the company in early June. At that time, vice president of finance/controller Ken Fischer was promoted to chief financial officer.
