On May 4, Prism Business Media e-mailed 8,460 subscribers of Multichannel Merchant and Direct, selected on an nth-name basis, an invitation to an online survey. The e-mail contained an embedded URL linking the recipients to the Website where the survey was located. Respondents were offered the opportunity to be entered into a drawing for one of four $50 Amazon.com gift certificates. Follow-up e-mails were sent to nonrespondents on May 9 and May 16. By May 24, Prism Business Media had received 164 completed surveys; 1,370 of the outbound e-mails were undeliverable; 7 surveys were incomplete. The effective response rate was 2.3%.
