Postal Reform Unlikely to Come Up for November Vote

For those holding out hope that Congress will past postal reform legislation during its lame-duck session will have to wait a little longer.

"The probability is very high that the postal reform vote will not come up this week," says Jerry Cerasale, senior vice president, government affairs for the Direct Marketing Association. Cerasale is holding out hope, however, that Congress will pass the bill when it convenes for an additional week in December.

As the bargaining window closes, Cerasale says one positive takeaway is that that the four key players in the legislation—Sen. Tom Carper (D-DE), Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA), Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), and Rep. Tom Davis (R-VA)—will be returning with the next Congress.
