Sale scotched by high S&H

You already know how most customers feel about shipping and handling, but here’s a real world example of how shoppers can walk away from a deal because of S&H. A Multichannel Merchant staffer found an item she wanted to buy as a gift on the Website of high-end gifts merchant Gump’s. The product — a desktop mini foosball game — was even on sale, reduced from $45 to $29.99. But the shipping and handling would have been $9.50 — nearly a third of the item price. It was close, but the staffer decided to pass on the item. Then again, another staffer paid $8.90 in S&H for a $15.95 rose bush, so sometimes customers don’t care.
