Gemstar-TV Guide is considering selling SkyMall, a Phoenix-based inflight and online cooperative cataloger.
“SkyMall has been a positive contributor to the company’s publishing segment in recent periods,” says Bo Park, vice president of communications and public affairs for Gemstar-TV Guide. “But it is not central to the company’s long-term strategy. As part of its overall evaluation of the strategic direction of it publishing business, the company is currently exploring a range of strategic alternatives related to SkyMall, including a possible sale.”
SkyMall places its catalogs in seat pockets on Amtrak and on about 20 airlines. Its catalogs can also be found in hotel rooms, airport lounges, and on select international flights.
