Austin, TX—Some 50 Texas wineries this week banded together to press the Texas House to legalize shipping of wine directly to consumers, according to TV station KEYE. The state’s prohibition on direct shipments of wine to customers, however, is supported by liquor distributors who say that the law ensures that taxes are paid on wines, that designated “dry” areas remain alcohol-free, and that alcohol stays out of the hands of minors.
