The TJX Companies has acquired direct-to-customer off-price retailer Sierra Trading Post for approximately $200 million cash.
As part of this transaction, TJX acquired Sierra Trading Post’s office, fulfillment center and photography studios in Cheyenne, Wyoming, its customer call centers in Cheyenne and Cody, WY, and its four outlet stores in Idaho, Nevada and Wyoming.
Sierra Trading Post has annual revenue of more than $200 million in annual revenue, and an organization of approximately 700 associates with substantial ecommerce experience and expertise. TJX – which owns the T.J. Maxx, Marshall’s and HomeGoods off-price chain stores, does not have an ecommerce presence.
TJX has been actively looking to hire and has hired ecommerce associates throughout 2012. However, analysts have said that based on the nature of TJX’s business model, it could be difficult for the company to enter into the ecommerce world.
