Zones 1Q sales take a hit

Like other computer marketers, Renton, WA-based Zones suffered a decline in first-quarter revenue. For the three months ended March 31, net sales were $99.8 million, down 38% from $161.2 million for the first quarter of 2001. Net income fell 22%, to $81,000 from $104,000.

Although the company shied away from making any predictions regarding its second-quarter performance, senior vice president/chief financial officer Ronald McFadden did say in a statement that “in anticipation of an expected rebound in technology spending later this year, we committed resources and invested in the hiring and training of new account executives during the first quarter of 2002.”
