General merchant Target is planning a $68 million, 1.6 million sq. ft. distribution center in Westfield, MA, according to The Boston Globe.The new Target distribution center is expected to create 300 to 500 positions, the newspaper reported.

The Home Depot is in the process of hiring the first 100 workers for its new regional distribution center in McCalla, AL, according to The Birmingham News. The Atlanta-based home improvement retailer spent $33 million to build the 657,000 sq. ft. warehouse, which was completed earlier this year in the 739-acre industrial park.

According to the newspaper, the new regional distribution center was designed to have technological advances over other distribution centers to improve service and increase efficiency at Home Depot stores in the region. It is part of a larger initiative the company has taken to improve its supply chain and make it easier for the stores to keep the right products in stock.

And women’s apparel cataloger/retailer Chico’s is expanding its distribution facilities. After investing $15 million, Chico’s has added a 300,000 sq. ft. call center near its current distribution center in Winder, GA. Chico’s officials say the new DC will create 189 full-time jobs over the next three years.
