Dell Tests New Bamboo Line

UNISOURCE GLOBAL SOLUTIONS CAME OUT WITH A NEW PACKAGING PRODUCT LAST NOVEMBER — renewable bamboo that serves as an alternative to molded paper pulp, foams and corrugate.

Dell is using the bamboo-packaging product for the product cushions inside the packaging for Inspiron Mini 10 and Mini 10v netbooks. The computers giant said in a company release that “The use of bamboo for electronics packaging is pretty new, but its viability as a great packaging material can’t be ignored.”

Why bamboo? It grows fast. It’s strong, and it’s easy on the environment.

Unisource Global Solutions sources its raw bamboo from a forest that follows Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) principles and criteria. The bamboo forest is located in China’s Jiangxi Province — far away from pandas’ known habitats.
