EquaShip Suspends Operations for at Least Nine Months

EquaShip, which began making deliveries in November, announced Monday it has suspended all operations for nine months to one year while the fledgling company re-engineers its transportation network for faster package delivery times, larger geographic coverage, and more service options.

EquaShip CEO Ron Wiener says the company’s transportation partner — Blue Package Delivery – “was unable to consistently meet our customers’ expectations on transit times,” and often “missed our published transit times by several days.”

After 30 days of “full-bore roll-out,” Wiener says company executives were disappointed with the average transit times, lack of complete package visibility and limited service area for pickups “compared to what we expected from the relationship. We came to the inescapable conclusion that we really needed to reconstruct the network around a complementary set of more tightly-integrated transportation partners and not rely on just one exclusive partner.”

Wiener says it’s too early to predict a relaunch date, but he estimates either in time for the fourth quarter this year or in January 2013.
