There’s no rubbing out India’s growing presence in international business. The country’s dominance in business process outsourcing is spreading far beyond call center services, says AMR Research analyst Lance Travis. By farming out transaction services such as accounting, payroll, and benefits processing to Indian providers, U.S. companies stand to gain process efficiencies, Travis says. Knowledge-based services are even more promising, tapping as they do India’s vast resource pool of physicians, scientists, lawyers, and accountants. These skilled professionals can provide, among other services, clinical trials management for the pharmaceutical industry, data analysis, and intellectual property research. Says Travis: “The move to offshore white-collar jobs is expanding beyond IT jobs, and companies that neglect the opportunity to capitalize on these services will fall behind their more globally focused competitors.”
