Burton Snowboards Contracts with West Coast Fulfillment Provider
To expand product availability and provide faster
fulfillment for its retail customers on the West Coast, Burton Snowboards,
which sells snowboard equipment, apparel and accessories, has contracted with a
distribution center in Walnut, CA.
The facility is owned and operated by Menlo Worldwide Logistics. It will handle
the distribution of multiple Burton brands, including the ANON sunglasses,
Analog, Gravis, Burton Apparel and Channel Islands non-surfboard product lines.
Menlo, a subsidiary of Con-way, will work closely with Burton’s main fulfillment
and logistics provider, World Warehouse and Distribution, in operating the new
facility.
World Warehouse and Distribution owns and operates Burton’s three other DCs in
North America. These centers will continue to fulfill ANON goggles, Burton
outerwear and snowboards. All of Burton’s DCs handle wholesale and direct
customers.
Raymond Campbell, Burton’s vice president of operations, says the company
decided to go with Menlo “because of their ability to work with an existing WMS
and their experience in the apparel business and this multiclient facility in
southern California fit our needs.”
Privately held Burton Snowboards started in 1977 when Jake Burton Carpenter starting
making snowboards in his Vermont barn. Starting in 1996, Burton began growing
its family of brands to include Anon Optics (snowboard goggles and eyewear),
R.E.D. Protection (helmets and body armor), Analog Outerwear, and Gravis
Footwear.
In 2005 it acquired four snowboard brands from Four Star Distribution,
including Forum Snowboarding, Jeenyus Snowboards, Foursquare Outerwear, and
Special Blend (SB) Outerwear. In February 2008, Burton acquired DNA
Distribution, which includes Alien Workshop, Habitat, and Reflex.
