Orvis closing auxiliary call center

Outdoor gear and apparel cataloger/retailer Orvis will close its Albuquerque, NM, call center on May 25, less than four years after opening the facility. Orvis has 100 employees at the 5,000-sq.-ft. call center. The call center handled overflow orders from Orvis’s central call center in Roanoke, VA. Orvis said that increased orders placed via the Web site have diminished its need for telephone sales reps.
