Fingerhut Companies named William Lansing, currently vice president of business development for General Electric Corp., as president. He will focus on expanding Fingerhut’s marketing and fulfillment business, electronic commerce and global growth initiatives. Fingerhut also promoted James Wehmann to vice president. Wehmann will maintain his role as treasurer and continue to report to Gerald Knight, senior vice president and chief financial officer.

Scott Rosen, currently chief financial officer of J. Crew Mail Order and Clifford & Wills, has been named senior vice president and chief financial officer of J. Crew Operating Corp. He will report to Barry Erdos, COO.

Allen Batts resigned from the board of directors of Hello Direct. Batts is a co-founder of Hello Direct, and served as president and chief executive officer from 1988 to 1997.

Multiple Zones International named Firoz Lalji, a founding investor, as its new president and chief executive officer, replacing John DeFeo, who remains on the board of directors. Lalji has served on the company’s board since March of 1990.

Musician’s Friend announced five additions to its corporate management staff: Alfredo Bessin to chief operating officer, Mark McCormick to vice president of sales, James Sykes to director of regional operations, James Walker to information systems manager, Janet Ryan to call center manager.

James Forbush joined Grand Circle Travel as senior vice president of marketing and sales. Forbush will be responsible for the company’s strategic marketing plan, product strategies, advertising and budgets.

Gary Olen has been elected chairman of the board and chief executive officer at The Sportsman’s Guide, and Gregory Binkley has been elected president and chief operating officer. Olen was the founder of The Olen Co., which was the original publisher of The Sportsman’s Guide.

Office Depot promoted Paul Gaffney to senior vice president of its commercial business unit, which includes the company’s mail order business as well as online operations. Gaffney was formerly senior vice president of MIS development.

Phyllis Cretors, president and founder of The Popcorn Factory, retired at the end of June. The firm is exploring a number of management options.

Ronald Zell has been named president of Real Goods Trading Corp. He replaces John Schaeffer, founder of the company, who will retain the titles of CEO and chairman of the board.

Mokrynski & Associates promoted Lori Sloves to account executive in the list brokerage division. After joining the company in 1992 as a list research assistant, she has filled roles such as customer service representative and account representative.

Andrea Nichols joined American List Counsel Interactive Media as account director. She will manage the new MatchLogic DeliverE e-mail list. At ALC New York, Mallory Weil has been appointed to the newly created position of vice president, brokerage and consulting services. She had been executive director at Coach.

Gruppo, Levey & Capell announced four additions: Mark DeGennaro, previously a senior legal counsel at White & Case, a New York-based law firm, as managing director; Karen Burka, formerly editorial director at Simba Information, as vice president; Alec Ireland, formerly senior manager of business development with Campbell Soup, as vice president; Lee Helman, formerly chief financial officer of Polo Jeans Co., as associate in its mergers and acquisitions practice.

Dynamic Marketing Services announced three promotions: Gary Zupke to director, customer service from senior account manager; John Roberson to senior vice president, marketing and sales from director of marketing; and Andrew Ziegler to executive vice president, customer service, from administrator of operations management.

George Burman joined the board of directors at Millard Group. He has been in the direct marketing industry for more than 20 years, including 10 years with General Mills, Inc., and its subsidiary, Talbots.

Inter Lake Papers, a subsidiary of Consolidated Papers, promoted Tara Tatro to sales representative, and added David Beiser and Kyle Prince as account executives.

Abacus Direct promoted Kathy Thorpe to manager, micro accounts from account executive, marketing information services, and hired Brian Ahearn as manager, national field accounts. Ahearn was formerly marketing director for Bullock & Jones.

Stephan Carter was promoted to president of RRD Direct, R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company’s direct mail business unit. He was most recently senior vice president of manufacturing, consumer magazine publishing services.

Horah Direct named Milt Pierce creative director. He is a contributor to direct marketing trade publications and has taught direct marketing at Baruch College and NYU.

Katie Doles and Michelle Davis joined Wheeling, IL-based list company Names and Addresses as account executives.

DIMAC Marketing announced six appointments: Stephanie MacDonald to director, fund raising; Jerry Harman to vice president, production control; Michael Hanrahan to recruitment manager; Theresa Neidert to manager, compensation; Donna Ables to manager, accounting and financial control; and Bill Huston to project manager.
