American Industrial Direct, a Chicago-based cataloger of tools and equipment for the automotive market, appointed Matt Dorfman president. He has more than 15 years of experience in catalog management.

Westerly, RI-based The Paragon Gifts, which produces the Paragon and Practica catalogs, appointed Jim Harkins vice president of marketing. Most recently, Harkins was principal of his own catalog consulting firm, Jim Harkins & Partners; previously he was vice president of brand management at Lillian Vernon Corp.

Michael P. Sherman, president of Minneapolis-based multititle mailer Fingerhut Cos., a wholly owned subsidiary of Federated Department Stores, will serve as the 2002 chairman of the Direct Marketing Association. Sherman previously served as vice chairman of the DMA board of directors. Before joining Fingerhut in 1996, he was executive vice president of Hanover Direct.

Richmond, VA-based NewClients, a promotional products distributor and list brokerage service, named Julie Herring brand detective, Carrington Kestelberg problem solver, and Kelly West superhero. Herring was most recently a sales associate with Henninger Richmond, and West was most recently director of administration with Technology Leasing Concepts.

New York-based apparel marketer Delia’s Corp. made several appointments. Luz Carrillo was named vice president of direct marketing, responsible for direct marketing and circulation planning for the catalog and Web channels. Richard Trimble was appointed director of inventory planning for the direct channel. Julie Kurtzman was appointed vice president of public relations and strategic alliances. Hope Wolman was named vice president of marketing and strategic alliances. Wendy Heath was appointed to the newly created position of executive vice president of product development and design. And Kate Mortell, Delia’s director of publishing for the direct channel, was promoted to vice president of print production and marketing logistics.

Canton, MA-based Geerlings & Wade, a multichannel marketer of wine and wine accessories, hired Richard Libby as its first chief marketing officer. Libby was president of MoveCentral (now MonsterMoving.com), which he led to its purchase by TMP Worldwide’s Monster.com.

New York-based Gould Paper Corp. announced three appointments. Daryl Schambach and Kevin Kleppe have joined Gould’s Metro Division’s sales force, and Stephen P. Stone is now general manager of its BRW subsidiary in Farmers Branch, TX. Schambach previously worked for Garrett Buchanan, which became part of Unisource, and Kleppe worked in customer service and outside sales for WWF Paper’s divisions in New York and New Jersey. Stone was previously division manager for Unisource’s Dallas branch.

Kansas City, MO-based Gragg Advertising & Design appointed Luis Gumucio creative director. Since 1989, he had operated Gumuciodesign, a design firm he founded in Chicago.

New York-based multititle mailer Brylane has appointed Cathy Fultineer executive vice president of its West Bridgewater, MA-based Apparel Group, which is responsible for the Chadwick and Lerner brands. Most recently, Fultineer was senior vice president/general manager of direct marketing at Bear Creek Corp., responsible for all aspects of marketing, merchandise creative services, and merchandising operations for the catalog and Internet channels.
